Introducing the new Shape Identity

We are proud to announce that the 27th September 2011 sees the 10 year anniversary of Shape Services.

In order to celebrate the anniversary and also to look forward to the new era of trading we have re-branded and re-launched.

Our 10 years in business has seen major changes both within Shape but also in the wider market place and the world as a whole. Shape is in a healthy, strong and optimistic position and we are looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that face us.

We’d like to thank all of the customers, staff and other agencies that have supported and encouraged us on the 10 year journey and we very much look forward to the continued support and loyalty in our future adventures.

Our intrepid team of walkers set out from the Humber Bridge on a very sunny Saturday morning. We had a good cross section of ages from mid to late 40s to a very young 8 year old! We set off at 9am and stopped for lunch at around 1.30 at the lovely village of Brantingham. We had completed a fairly wind swept 10 miles at this point and we were all ready for a break!

The second half seemed to be a lot further than the 8 miles it said in the book but after a few hours and a couple of light showers we all managed to make it to the Gnu Inn at North Newbald and the end of the first leg of our Yorkshire Wolds walk. We will be doing Day 2 next year on 15th September 2012 and it may take some of us that long to recover from Saturday!!

Back to the real reason why we are doing this. Help for Heroes is a fabulous charity and does great work to support injured servicemen and women. We had a fun day out as well as being mindful of the underlying reason to raise lots and lots of money for thesepeople who have earned our support. If you haven’t yet sponsored us then please visit www.bmycharity.com/ShapeServices. All donations will be greatly appreciated.

It’s that time of the year when we can all have the opportunity to do something worthwhile. This years Help for Heroes Event will be a sponsored walk of 18 miles along the scenic section of the Yorkshire Wolds Way on Saturday 17th September. You will have no doubt seen in the news recently that H4H has raised over £100m. £95.2m has already been spent on a number of projects to help wounded servicemen and women returning from areas of conflict. However, there is a figure of £47.6m quoted for the charities “wish list” of projects to do. Clearly much money still to be raised.

So far, we have managed to raise just short of £4k. This year, with our ever increasing team of people, should be our best year yet. Steve Allenby and Dean Russell have again generously agreed to match £1 for £1 all the money raised so every £1 you raise translates to £2 for the charity.

Our event is now registered on the H4H website, if you would like to make a donation please visit http://www.bmycharity.com/ShapeServices . All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Good luck to Shape Director Steve Allenby who has wandered off to complete the 80 mile Yorkshire Wolds walk in 4 days to help him come to terms with his recent 40th birthday!

Shape has recently completed phase 1 of an extensive upgrade project for Galliford Try. This involved work on over 200 sites in London, Glasgow and Yorkshire. London in particular proved challenging with the various “barriers” to travel and parking anywhere inside of the M25!

The project began late last year and was completed in February. Shape deployed up to several teams on the project to make sure completion met Galliford Try targets. We look forward to building on the relationship we have with Galliford Try and are now eagerly awaiting phase 2.

Shape’s annual sponsored event took place on Saturday 17thJuly with all proceeds going to our adopted charity “Help For Heroes”. We had 8 walkers and 2 “mad” runners for a 12 mile round trip beginning and starting at Hutton Le Hole just near Pickering. The weather was okay with only a couple of showers to dampen the spirits.

Everybody completed the walk in fine form, even Keeley in her Ugg Boots, not necessarily the most appropriate footwear for ambling across the North Yorkshire Moors.

The amount raised was doubled by the company and reached a total of £1700 smashing our total from last year. Thanks go to the intrepid runners and walkers and all those that sponsored us.

The 2010 annual external quality audit has now been carried out and we are pleased to announce that Shape Services Ltd has again passed with a clean bill of health. This demonstrates our continued commitment to providing excellent service to our customers and you can be assured that this ethic will continue. Congratulations also to our sister company Shape Personnel Ltd for also passing the audit with flying colours.

Spring is finally arriving after a harsh winter and it’s now the traditional time to have a good spring clean. The bad weather often causes damage to infrastructure assets which will affect operational performance if left to deteriorate further. We have resources available to carry out any remedial work you may need so please feel free to call us to discuss your ‘spring clean’ requirements…

The successful association between Airtel Vodafone and Shape Services continues into 2010 with our return to the idyllic Channel Islands. We are revisiting Guernsey first to commence the construction and installation of 2 new sites located in Perelle Bay and L’Eree Bay whilst the holiday season is still a couple of months away.

This is in line with Airtel Vodafones continued commitment to provide the people of the Channel Islands with a first class network. Along with the expansion of the network we are continuing with their 900 GSM roll out programme across the entire network; this will see us visiting Alderney and Sark in the coming weeks.

Since 2003 Shape Services has supplied a four man team in support the British forces in Basrah Iraq. Over the years a number of the team had travelled all over the Southern provinces of Iraq in an array of armoured vehicles, installing and repairing the communications network used by the British forces on the ground. Ken Park was awarded his Iraq Service Medal in recognition for his part of the campaign. Here is Steve Allenby presenting Ken with his Medal.

A four man team lead by Dean Russell has deployed to complete the upgrade work in and around the location of Kabul. This is the final part of the project started in November last year and is being followed by a maintenance commitment. The project has run smoothly to date and the team is expecting to demobilise very soon.

As Christmas is fast approaching we thought that we’d taken a moment to savour the daily routine of one of the installation engineers currently working away from in Afghanistan. It makes the annual traumatic trip around Toys r Us seem all the more bearable….. Watch out for more from Aden in the new year!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INSTALLATION ENGINEER By Aden Le-Slurs
Its 4:30am and my bedside alarm has gone off, with another team member in the same Corimec as me, he too is disturbed from his sleep. We need to be up, as today we are going on a trip to the mountains, to install one end of a microwave link and so transport is arranged for a 5.am pick up.

After morning ablutions we take a brief walk and arrive at the pick up point. Within ten minutes the transport arrives, in the form of armoured Toyota Land Cruisers. After a short briefing by the convoy commander, explaining immediate action drills we should follow, through various scenarios, we load up, put our body armour and helmets on and board the vehicles. I always feel a little apprehensive when embarking on these journeys as the escort soldiers in their armour with loaded weapons, sat in a vehicle that is armoured with body armour on myself, brings home the realty of the possibilities that may lay ahead.
